Kids Duo 250ml: two bottles for children's food

Kids Duo 250ml is two bottles of Olivko Kids 250ml — 500ml in total. It is for a household already using Olivko Kids that has found one bottle does not go far enough.

What Olivko Kids is

Olivko Kids is organic extra virgin olive oil from Tunisia, certified by Ecocert and USDA Organic, with free acidity below 0.2%. The 250ml bottle is chosen for children's food because it empties quickly and is kept separate from the cooking bottle.

When two bottles make sense

• More than one child eating separately prepared meals
• Olive oil used daily in a child's porridge, rice or soup

The taste, and how to soften it

Fresh extra virgin olive oil leaves a peppery catch at the back of the throat. Adults learn to like it; children often do not at first. That is not a sign anything is wrong with the oil — it is a sign the oil is fresh.

• Stir it into warm food such as porridge or rice — gentle heat takes the edge off
• Combine it with something creamy: egg, mashed potato, avocado
• Start with half a teaspoon and build up gradually
• Pair it with tomato or lime, which balances the bitterness

How to use it

• A teaspoon stirred into porridge or vegetable purée
• Added to rice or soup after cooking, not during
• Used raw — do not overheat it
• Stirred into mashed potato or scrambled egg
• Poured over roast vegetables as they come out of the oven

The same rule runs through all of them: add it after the heat, not during. The compounds that give olive oil its aroma are volatile, so long cooking drives off nearly all of them.

The oil in the bottle

Single-origin organic extra virgin olive oil from Tunisia, cold pressed. Certified by Ecocert and USDA Organic, with free acidity below 0.2% and Halal recognised by JAKIM. It is the same oil as the adult bottle — what differs is the size and the purpose the bottle is kept for.

Storing it

Open one bottle at a time. Keep the second in a cool, dark low cupboard, away from the window and the hob. Close the cap after every pour — not once cooking is done, but after each pour.
