The 250ml bottle: a first bottle, and small kitchens

The smallest size. Finished while still fresh, which matters most for raw dishes.

18 October 2026 · 2 min read

The 250ml is Olivko's smallest adult size. It is not a lesser version — the oil inside is the same as in the 500ml and the 3-litre. What differs is how long it sits in your kitchen once opened.

Three reasons to choose 250ml

1. You have not tried it before

Fresh extra virgin olive oil tastes strong — peppery at the back of the throat, slightly bitter. It is not a taste everyone takes to at first. A small bottle means you are not committed to a litre of something you are not sure about.

2. You use it only for raw dishes

If your olive oil is only for salads, hummus and finishing soup, you may use a tablespoon or two a week. A 500ml bottle would take three months to empty, and the flavour — the thing you notice most in a raw dish — would fade before then.

3. A small kitchen, or you live alone

Cooking for one uses roughly half the oil of cooking for two. The 250ml is the size that matches, and it fits somewhere dark and cool without needing to find space for it.

The oil inside

Organic extra virgin, single-origin Tunisian, cold pressed. Free acidity 0.18% (ONH Tunis, report N° 2025B1064, 17 March 2026) against an international ceiling of 0.8%. Organic certified, and Halal recognised by JAKIM.

Why size affects flavour

This is the part rarely explained. Olive oil degrades on contact with oxygen, and every time you pour, air moves in to replace what came out.

That means a bottle down to its last quarter is mostly air sitting on top of your oil. A small bottle spends far less time in that state, so the last oil you pour is still close to as fresh as the first.

For raw dishes this matters, because that is where you actually taste the oil. For sautéing it matters less — heat softens the peppery and bitter notes anyway, so slightly older oil is still fine.

How long a 250ml bottle lasts

  • Salads and finishing only: six to eight weeks
  • Salads plus occasional sautéing: three to four weeks
  • Daily cooking for one: about three weeks
  • Daily cooking for a family: under a fortnight — choose a larger size

When 250ml is not the right choice

If you already know you like olive oil and cook daily for a family, a 250ml bottle will be gone in a fortnight and you will be reordering constantly. The 500ml, or a two-bottle set, fits better.
